When we got engaged and started planning the wedding I was still living in the States. Carolina was super accessible, even from afar, and really just took care of everything. She sent us choices for all of the vendors, and then after we made our decisions (usually by looking at their Instagram accounts) she called and booked all of them for us (and they were all amazing by the way). We never felt stressed out about figuring anything out. She was also really amazing on the day of the wedding! “Ly-Yen and I are big international travelers and wanted a destination wedding. Not interested in a beach, we focused on places close to Texas (most of our friends and family are here) and narrowed down to Banff, Canada and Antigua, Guatemala. We had visited Guatemala 2 years before and absolutely loved it. We talked to a couple of friends who had been to a wedding in Antigua and both said it was the best they had ever been too. We wanted something different for us and our guests so decided to check into Antigua a bit further. We did a venue search in January this year, fell in love with Santa Clara, luckily found Carolina and had an amazing trip to Antigua with 150 guests. Guatemala has so much to offer: friendly people, beautiful landscapes, great food, amazing venues and a ton of options for hotels, restaurants and bars. Antigua is a beautiful town, is walkable, has amazing weather and has plenty of activities (hiking, biking, coffee farm, fishing 1-1.5 hrs away in pacific, tons of great restaurants). It is a hidden gem that won’t be hidden for much longer! Our guests absolutely loved the town and trip. As for the rehearsal/welcome dinner and wedding itself, they were absolutely amazing. We received an absurd number of “that was the best wedding I’ve ever been to” comments which we weren’t trying to do at all. Most importantly, we absolutely loved every moment of it and had an amazing time that exceeded what we had planned and envisioned. A huge part of that happening was Carolina. She is sweet, responsive, helpful, reassuring, flexible, coordinated, accommodating and knows the vendors/venues/town extremely well. She did a fantastic job from initial planning to finalizing details to keeping us focused on key steps along the way to payments to execution the weekend of. You couldn’t ask for a better coordinator, and we didn’t even meet her in person until the day before the wedding! Ly-Yen asks a ton of questions and Carolina was always happy to answer any time of the day. We relied so much on her and didn’t even visit again after the venue choice early in the year until our wedding weekend in November. Carolina was great the weekend of the wedding as well. Everything was organized, she worked around our schedule and made sure all went well. Looking back, getting married in Antigua was a no brainer and such an amazing time. “Carolina Méndez helped us plan our destination wedding which we celebrated in November 2016 at El Cerro de Santo Domingo, Antigua Guatemala. I first met Carolina a few years before at one of my best friend's wedding – also a destination wedding in Guatemala. Back then, I was impressed by her skills and how organized and calmed she was during the entire event. My friend and her husband were able to enjoy their wedding to the fullest because they knew that Carolina had everything under control. So when my husband proposed, I knew I wanted to get married in Guatemala (my home country) but I also knew that living in Switzerland, I couldn't do it without help. Before even telling my parents that we were planning on celebrating in Antigua Guatemala, I contacted Carolina and asked her if she would be free for the planned date. I was very happy and relieved when she confirmed that she could help us plan our big day. We worked together over a period of 18 months. We knew more or less what we wanted but had no idea where to start. Thanks to her expertise and excellent organizational skills, we were able to find the location which was most suitable for us. She also recommended us a wide range of excellent providers – from decorators to photographers and make-up artists, etc. Once we made a selection, she coordinated the requests and offerings so we could concentrate on choosing our favorites. We went to Guatemala once, 12 months before the wedding to visit the location and make the final decision on the respective providers and the catering. The rest of the time, we were constantly in contact and Carolina updated us on the status and provided us with input on what we should consider next. “When my now husband and I traveled to Guatemala together for the first time, almost ten years ago, he promised me we would get married where I had dreamed of getting married since I was 15 years old. That location is Hotel Casa Santo Domingo- Antigua, Guatemala. As residents of New York in the United States we wondered how we would make our dreams and vision come true from such a far distance. Luckily for us we were referred to Carolina Méndez. Since our very first meeting with Carolina through Skype we knew that she would be the ideal wedding planner to work with. She was professional, warm, enthusiastic, and demonstrated genuine interest in what we wanted and a clear willingness to work with us. Carolina made planning our wedding a complete breeze and we knew we were in good hands by the effort she put into presenting us with exactly what we asked for each time. She made regular appointments with us through Skype and was always prepared and punctual for each of those meetings. A great example of how much Carolina will care about your guest that comes to mind is when my friend and her family arranged transportation with Carolina from the airport to the hotel and her luggage, which had much of her baby's belonging did not arrive but instead would be arriving on the next flight, Carolina in true fashion went above and beyond for them. Instead of taking them to the airport she drove them around Guatemala City to show them the city in the meantime the next flight arrived. She did not have to do that at all but instead she wanted to make sure my guest were happy in every way. The day of the wedding Carolina made me feel supported and completely stress free. On one of the most important days of my life I felt so relaxed because I knew Carolina was in charge and many days in advance she made it very clear that everything was in order as we had planned and that I should just enjoy the day.
